Google Wi-Fi Review Honest

With the intent to revolutionize and transform wireless internet networking Google has launched a home mesh Wi-Fi system. Therefore, this article extrapolates all the features, functionalities, performance, pros, and cons to provide a detailed  Google Wi-Fi review for you.

As it is built on mesh Wi-Fi Technology, it provides a fast internet connection.

Traditional Wi-Fi was not designed for all the different ways we use Wi-Fi today. Walls and distance make it different for a router to send a strong internet signal to every room in your home resulting in slow Wi-Fi and dead Zones.

Each Google Wi-Fi point is a Router compatible with your existing ISP. Google Wi-Fi is easy to use, affordable than other mesh routers and delivers a solid performance.

 Google Wi-Fi Detailed Review {2022}

Google Wi-fi can match if it does not exceed, Netgear in terms of performance. We have never seen a router deliver the same 100Mbps Wi-Fi service. Google Wi-Fi is capable of delivering this same high-performance service to all rooms in our small house.

It’s possible to stream 4K video via Netflix to our Roku Premiere downstairs and to play Overwatch at the office. Wi-Fi mesh systems such as Google Wi-fi don’t focus as much on throughput as they do on coverage. This product delivers.

Traffic prioritization ensures that your gaming session receives more bandwidth than other devices in your home that are most used for streaming HD videos and Facebooking. The network can also automatically repair itself if one or more Wi-Fi points lose power.

We don’t see any significant difference in performance between the two systems, even though we know that Google Wi-fi uses existing Wi-Fi bands (2.4GHz & 5GHz) and the 802.11s protocol.

Netgear’s 2.4GHz band is slightly faster than Google Wi-fi. We see marginally higher download speeds. This could be a major strength of it.

Google Wi-Fi Functionalities

Google has a competitive pricing edge, but also the most elegant Wi-Fi units. Every Google Wi-Fi unit is a small, simple cylinder with a white LED band at its centre. It delivers the same capabilities.

This means that any Google Wi-Fi device can be used as the core router, and the other devices can extend the wireless signal to it wirelessly with their Ethernet ports. All three units can be powered by USB-C.

The setup process is very simple, much like Google Wi-Fi hardware design. To make it easier, you can use an Android or iOS app. While we won’t get into the details, the Google Wi-Fi App allows you to set up your network by scanning the QR codes at the Wi-Fi points connected to your gateway or modem.

After you create a new network name and password, scan their QR codes to pair additional Wi-Fi points. Once that is done, you will be able to identify individual nodes within the app. It takes only a few seconds for the first Google Wi-Fi Node to recognize additional nodes, and then they will start working.

Band switching is not an option as you won’t get the same level of access that Netgear provides. Google Wi-Fi handles this automatically behind the scenes.

Google Wi-Fi Performance

Google Wi-Fi delivers superior performance than other routers. Although some routers offer better performance, they are more expensive than Google Wi-Fi.

It is also great to have extra features, along with long-lasting durability and performance. It is worth the investment, according to my experience. There are still some disadvantages. We will be discussing all the drawbacks to Google wi-fi in the next section.

Plus, Side of Google Wi-Fi

The system also expands the network by adding new nodes and changing existing routes to better routes for sent and received data. These are all great advantages. However, there are some drawbacks. The most important are the latency issues and backhaul traffic handling. This issue becomes more apparent when dealing with the one-radio system. With an extender, you get less bandwidth to transfer data because a large amount must be kept for backhaul traffic.

The bandwidth of the Google Wi-Fi radio is being shared between the clients and the backhaul traffic. However, wireless performance can be affected because it is not a tri-band network. Velop and Google Wi-Fi can use the Ethernet backhaul to create a stable, high-performing system.

Google Wi-Fi has a positive side. It uses automatic band steering to move devices between the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks. Additionally, it uses client steering which means that devices will be assigned to the closest node. Google made it mandatory that these radio bands cannot be separated in order to ensure that both features work properly.

Advantage and Disadvantages of Google Wi-Fi [2022]

Advantages:-

  • It comes with an unparalleled sleek design
  • You will be able to create a mesh network
  • It provides you with a stable wire performance to give a seamless experience.
  • It offers a very competitive price tag to beat its competitor.
  • It is designed to facilitate better coverage.
  • It is very easy to set up
  • It comes with a very powerful, robust, and accessible app to use seamlessly.
  • Constant updates to improve your Wi-Fi experience
  • It has a modern design and very family-friendly control features.

Disadvantages:-

  • It severely lacks some very useable advanced features.
  • It does not have a USB port for backup or network storage.
  • First you need to set up a Google account and must have a mobile phone to manage and set up your Wi-Fi.
  • There are only two cable ports to use.
  • You do not get any web interface.
  • It has got a lower AC rating and you do not get enough hardware control.

Conclusion

Google Wi-Fi is by far the easiest and most straightforward router we have ever used. This is not even taking into account the two additional devices needed to complete the process. The unit selection is better than many of Google’s competitors and the management app has the best setup.

Google considered every possible toggle and test that it could present through its app, despite the absence of finer hardware controls and AC3000 and AC2200 throughput. You can even control bandwidth priority. This system is uncluttered and clean. It’s one of the most powerful Wi-Fi systems you can buy in 2022.
